St Wilfrids are Specsavers Tag Rugby Champions for third year in a row!

IMG-20150520-WA0006 (1)Another fantastic performance by our Y5/6 Tag rugby team (made up of 8 boys and 3 girls across three year groups).

16 teams from Rainbow Forge, Birley Spa,  Birley,  Killamarsh, Ridgeway, Halfway and ourselves  competed in the Specsavers Sheffield Tag rugby finals at Mosborough Rugby Club.

The day started with he team having to play with only 6 players (due to late arrivals after a mix up over directions!)

Despite this handicap St Wilfrids managed to secure a draw!

The team then proceeded to play their hearts out in the next 4 matches , winning them all with some fantastic tagging, passing and dribbling.

After a short break for lunch it was time for the quarter finals. With lots of encouragement from parents, Mr Conway and Dean the coach from Rugger Eds they progressed into the Quarter finals.

The team ( Sophie, Ciara , Amanda,Tom, Leo, Louis G , Louis M , James, Isaac, Jem and Sam )came up against Brunswick  in the quarter final and won easily 4-0.

The semi final was against a team called Cams and they cruised through with a score of 5 tries to nil and a place in the final.

After an impressive start which brought four quick tries for St Wilfrids, Abbey Lane hit back with two tries of their own. With the clock counting down we managed to get two more tries and run out worthy winners by 6 tries to 2.

The children were each presented with a medal courtesy of Mosborough Rugby Club and the huge Specsavers Tag Rugby trophy plus a replica which has pride of place in our school trophy cabinet!!

Many many thanks to all the parents and staff  who helped on the day with transport (Mr Spray, Mrs Shaw, Mr Grasier and Mrs Civico  and Dean from Rugger Eds.
