Celebration of the Word
Celebration of the Word (or collective worship) is an integral part of school life at St Wilfrid’s and is central to the Catholic tradition. Celebration of the Word provides opportunities for our community to contemplate the mystery of God, reflect on spiritual and moral issues, experience a sense of belonging and grow in liturgical understanding.
The timetable of Celebration of the Word in our school is as follows:
Monday – In class – Child led
Tuesday – Whole School – rooted in the Gospel
Wednesday – Whole School – singing
Thursday – In class – Child led
Friday – Whole School – celebration
Children are taught to participate fully in the Celebration of the word and are encouraged to plan and lead, appropriate to their age. Each Celebration of the Word has 4 parts:

Mission
The children are taught about the Liturgical year and we use the ‘Let us Pray’ resources to help the children to consider appropriate responses to the scripture they hear.

We also hold celebrations in line with the church liturgical year including Easter, Mary devotion, May Procession, Advent and Lent services, Remembrance, Pentecost and Holy Week services.
