Parents could I ask you to help improve your child’s literacy skills by asking them to summarise a book they have read to you in 3 sentences? Summarising is quite a tricky concept for some children so if they can get into the habit of doing it verbally it is a helpful step towards doing it in writing. It also helps towards making effective notes, which they will need to do increasingly more of as they get older.
