Our recent trip to Pontefract saw the Y4/5/6 tag rugby team triumph in the Tag to Twickenham Yorkshire Finals.
20 schools from the four corners of Yorkshire played tag rugby with the hope of progressing to the home of rugby , Rugby School.
In the morning St Wilfrids played 4 matches , winning all 4.
The afternoon was a similar story , with 2 wins out of 2 .
The third match however was against one of the pre tournament favourites, Beverley Minster Church School. With only 2 minutes to go the team were losing by 2 tries.Somehow they managed to dig deep and squeeze out a draw with seconds to spare.
A win in the final match of the afternoon meant we were definitely one of two teams to progress to Rugby School.
In a nice touch, all the children from the other school teams made a victory arch for the two teams to walk down, to the tune of Swing Low Sweet Chariot!
The final was a ding dong battle which could have gone either way . In the end St Wilfrids just managed to come out on top , winning 8 tries to 7.
Next stop Rugby School on Wednesday 10th July and a chance to play at Twickenham!
