Budding basketball stars excel in Y4 Hotshots event at Notre Dame

Y4 Hotshot Success!

Well done to our ten children who participated in the Links School Sports Partnership Hotshots Event for Y4s at Notre Dame School  on Wednesday afternoon.

The Y4s played a round robin event against St Marie’s, St John Fisher and Nether Edge primary schools.

Each match consisted of 2 x 4 minute halves. 2 boys and 2 girls played the first half and then the other 2 boys and girls played the second half.

Their first match against St John Fisher was amazing considering it was the first time any of the children had played in a competitive basketball match before.. Some great passing and defensive work from Alice, Roisin,Scarlet, Charlotte and Freya meant the team kept a clean sheet. At the business end some inspired attacking play and shooting from Benjamin, James, PJ, Dubby and Isaac meant  the team ran out 20 to nil winners.

In the second match the team were growing in confidence and upped their game against a strong St Marie’s team, edging them out by 10 points to eight.

The final game was against Nether Edge primary. It was clear from the tip off that he children were determined to win their final match and thus qualify for the Sheffield finals at All Saints on 11th December. Great dribbling and passing by all the children resulted in a 16 – 2 victory and qualification for the next round.

It really was rewarding to see such wonderful teamwork!

Many thanks to  Mrs Mannion who helped in the afternoon and to all the parents who came to cheer on the children.

It was especially nice to see so many of last year’s y6s offering their support.

The team will next play at All Saints on 11th December
