Foundation Subjects in Y2 Autumn 2012

History The topic for this half term is Florence Nightingale and next half term we will study Remembrance Sunday.

 

Religious Education. Our first topic is Homes. Our second topic will be Signs and Symbols and our third Visitors. We will also study Judaism this term. The children will  perform a Nativity play on Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th December. More information about timings will follow nearer the time.

 

Design Technology After half term we will be designing and making our own Fridge Magnets.

 

Science Our first topic is Helping Plants Grow. The second is Sound and Hearing.

 

Art – ‘Portraits’ We will be looking at a variety of portraits, ,practising drawing and painting faces and revising colour mixing skills.

 

P.E. will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (outdoor games- weather permitting). Dance will focus on partner work and response to rhythmic patterns (‘March March March’) and Gymnastics on ‘High and Low.’  Outdoor games covers a range of throwing, catching, kicking and passing skills focussing on collaborative work. Please provide your child with trainers, shorts, a t-shirt, jogging bottoms and a sweatshirt for outdoor games. As part of Health and Safety Regulations children are asked not to wear jewellery during P.E. Thank – you.

 

ICT  The children will use ICT across the curriculum. They will be developing their word processing skills through discrete ICT lessons. They will focus on a topic on Finding Information: E – Safety and internet Use during the first half term followed by Manipulating Sounds in which the children will have the opportunity to explore software and make musical compositions.

 

Music We will be following the Year 2 Music Express scheme covering a range of skills including rhythm and tempo this term. Work in ICT will complement our activities in Music this term.

 

PSHE/SEAL  We will be using resources from the  SEAL programme, starting with ‘New Beginnings’, linking the work to the RE topics and the weekly Ethos Statements.
