South Yorkshire School Games Success!

South Yorkshire School Games Success!

Well done to all the children who took part in the School Games Regional Finals which took place on Wednesday 18th March . A fantastic day  began with a musical performance, dance routine and a procession around the indoor track, watched over by the Lord Mayor of Sheffield.

The top 2 schools in Sheffield plus the top 2 from Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster competed in Hotshots Basketball and Sportshall Athletics which involves Olympic style relay running events and field events such as triple jump, long jump and high jump. The children really gave it their all in both events!

In the Hotshots Basketball the y3/4’s played the other four schools in Group A . 4 minutes each way , two boys and two girls  on the court at the same time. Cheered on by the other children and parents they stormed to two  wins, a draw and a solitary loss. Although they didn’t qualify for the final they should be proud of the effort and determination they all showed throughout.

In the main event of the day the y5/6’s( assisted by a couple of y4’s) took part in the  South Yorkshire Sportshall Championships.

This was the culmination of an event which started way back in October. 180 schools from across South Yorkshire had been whittled down to the final eight.

There were some fantastic performances on the track and in the field events against very strong opposition.

Every one of the twenty eight children gave their all throughout the event!

Throughout the day the children behaved impeccably with big smiles on their faces, which is really what it’s all about!

At the end of the final race the eight schools were called together for the results. After a nail biting wait it was announced that St Wilfrid’s had won the silver medal much to the pleasure of all the children!!!

A big thank you to all the mums and dads who helped on the day!
