A massive well done to the Y6 boys football team who competed in the annual Catholic Cup Football event at All Saints on Friday afternoon.
In sweltering conditions the 8 boys performed magnificently. In their first 5 matches they managed to win 3 -0 , 2-0, 1-0 and 5 -o, drawing their final match 0-0. This secured a place in the semi finals against the winners from last year , St Mary’s from High Green. Showing great determination teamwork and lots of skill the boys came out 3- 0 winners and a place in the final.
In a very hard fought final against St Patricks the boys were awarded a free kick . James stepped up and rifled a rocket shot into the top corner!! This is swiftly followed by a sublime left foot volley by Lenny into the opposite corner . Despite conceding a late goal(the first goal conceded by Finn our goalie who pulled off some terrific saves) St wilfrid’s hung on and the final claxon was met with wild celebrations.
P J , Benji , Sam, Finn, Dubby, James, Isaac and Lenny made up the St Wilfrids team. They were a real credit to the school, showing all the core values of our school of Aspiration, Faith, Respect .and a great deal of Effort !!
Each child received a lovely glass trophy and the silver Cup .
