Dear Parents,
We have had a very busy first week back in school. The children have completed lots of different work tasks and I’m quickly getting to know the children. I’m sure this will be a good year for us all and hopefully I will make the learning purposeful and fun for everyone.
By the end of the week I saw lots of children yawning, so I hope they have chance to rest and relax over the weekend. I will provide homework most weeks to support the learning we do at school. This week I think reading and some times tables work will be enough. Please check this blog at the end of each week to see the tasks I have set for your child.
Your child has been given a reading book to take home. When they have finished the book, please return it to school and the children can select a new one from the basket they have been asked to choose from. I would like the children to read as much as possible at home as this has such a big impact on their learning. If your child is no longer reading books with a coloured sticker, they will have been asked to select a book from the class library. I am quite happy for your child to read books you provide at home instead of these books as long as they are reading and enjoying the texts.
This year the children will learn their times tables and corresponding division facts. Last year I found that the children enjoyed learning their tables with Percy Parker. I have decided to use this resource again this year. This week we have been singing the 2x table. Any extra practise at home would be good. It is a free site and here is the link:

A letter was given to all children at the end of the day on Friday with the heading ‘Important information for parents/carers, Sept 2013’. I collected several copies from the classroom tables and cloakroom when the children left school. If you didn’t receive a copy, please come to collect one from the classroom.
There will be an information evening for parents very shortly when there will be the opportunity to ask questions and to hear about what your children will be learning this year. I will let you know the date as soon as it is arranged.
