Y4 Hotshots team Regional Champs for 2nd successive year!!

Fantastic news! Our Y4 Hotshots basketball team were victorious  in the Sainsburys Regional Finals at the EIS on Thursday last week.

Having already qualified as Sheffield winners a few weeks ago, the Y4s were now up against 10 other schools from across South Yorkshire.

Each match consisted of 2 x 4 minute halves. 4 boys  played the first half and then the 4 girls played the second half. The team , Marnie,  Aisling , Julia, Eliza , Millie , Ted, Joseph ,George,  Vinnie and Franklyn.

Throughout the tournament  all the children showed great determination coupled with plenty of basketball skills!!

In the first 4 matches St Wilfrid’s managed to win all of them with  George ( he is very tall ) scoring the majority of the baskets ,ably assisted by the rest of his team mates. However 2 of the matches were extremely close with our team only coming out victors by the odd basket . Those 4 wins ensured qualification for the final against a very strong Barnsley team. In a tight final St Wilfrids led by 1 basket to nil in the first half and with some great defence and a final basket by Eliza  the children secured a memorable 6-2 victory .

It was so pleasing to see the determination, skill and team work from all the children , cheered on  by lots of parents. At the final hooter the children were really happy. And so they should be!! To be crowned the Regional Champions for the 2nd successive year is a remarkable achievement given the numbers of schools who originally entered.

Many thanks to all the parents who came and supported us in the afternoon
