Phonics in Year 1

Phonics in Year 1

All children brought home a ‘Complex Speed Sound chart’ before the holiday to practise and consolidate the sounds they have been learning in school. Practising these sounds on a daily basis for just 1 minute will help your child gain confidence in recognising the sounds speedily and then help them to apply them to unknown words when reading.

All Year 1 children will be completing a National Phonics Screening Check and they will be checked on both real and nonsense words. The words will contain sounds from the Complex Speed Sound chart. This week we will be sending home some example materials to practise. Please ask if you have mislaid the ‘Complex Speed Sound chart’ and another will be given.
