Y5 Hotshots Team triumph at All Saints

Y5 Hotshots Team triumph at All Saints

A fantastic display by the 10 children who competed  in the Y5 Hotshots Sheffield finals at All Saints Sports Centre on Monday 3rd April. Daisy , Tess,  Madeleine, Olivia , Esther, Oliver, Benny, Ben, Nicolas and Onesh making up the team.

The Y5s were up against 10 other schools from across Sheffield.

Each of our matches consisted of 2 x 4 minute halves. 4 boys played the first half and then the 4 girls played the second half. 2 of the children taking part had never played basketball for St Wilfrids before, so for Esther and Onesh this was a new experience. I dont think they realised at first just what a physical game it is. However they soon got into their stride and pleasingly both scored at least one basket each.

Throughout the tournament  all the children showed great determination coupled with plenty of basketball skills!!

Two of our girls , Daisy and Tess , ( who are now members of Sheffield Hatters Basketball Club) led the way with great dribbling, passing and shooting.

In the first 4 matches , St Wilfrid’s managed to win all of them and progressed to the final with ease. Fantastic team work, determination and lots of great shooting resulted in the team winning by at least 5 or 6 baskets in each match.

The final was  a close affair, this time against a strong Stocksbridge. At half time , after a close 4 mins, the boys had secured a 2 point lead .However ,the girls boys put in their best performance of the day and eventually ran out 14- 2 winners .

They stepped up to receive their certificates to rapturous applause from the parents and Mr Brelsford, a very proud coach.

This meant that St Wilfrids were now the Sheffield Y5 Hotshots Champions!!

Many thanks to all the parents who came and supported us throughout the day.
